Who are Martin and Oliver, the founders of Wonnda?
We met in a web development Bootcamp in Portugal in 2019 and became close friends through our shared passion for cooking, tech and enabling small businesses. During that Bootcamp, we were staying late because Oliver was building a secret Santa app while Martin was finishing optional coding exercises.
Oliver is originally from Kitzbühel, Austria, and studied Management in Austria and Belgium. Martin is German, from Düsseldorf, and studied Management in Germany, Brazil, The Netherlands and Israel, but we both ended up in Berlin at the beginning of 2020, where Oliver started to work at Compa and Martin founded TripLegend.
After the web development bootcamp, we both realized the huge opportunity of no-code solutions and decided to become freelance no-code web developers. Together we built more than 20+ websites for small businesses and used the earnings to found Wonnda.
What does Wonnda do?
Wonnda is a marketplace where entrepreneurs and manufacturers develop consumer products together. Entrepreneurs can quickly find, customize and order their products from pre-qualified manufacturers. Manufacturers get a browser-based workspace to manage new and existing projects, clarify product specifications, qualify leads and handle payments. Both parties can communicate and share files in the workspace (e.g. offers, invoices).
Wonnda orchestrates the entire process and has all the necessary information about projects in one place (e.g. shampoo, 200ml, 3000 pieces). Entrepreneurs can find and book other needed services directly (e.g. hire product designers and fulfilment partners). We provide entrepreneurs with all the resources required and best practice guides to launch their products successfully.
Where did the inspiration for Wonnda come from?
The initial idea of wonnda (which was called 99stories back then) originated from Olli’s study times in which he experienced how hard and cumbersome it was to launch a new product. Back then, Olli supported his dad, who is an optician, to launch his own eyewear brand – Kitzbühel Eyewear – and was looking for the perfect eyewear manufacturer. We consequently did a lot of online research, went to many physical fairs, visited manufacturers in Italy until we found the optimal supplier in a small Italian village. After that hassle, Olli realized that there must be an easier way and started his ideation process.
When Olli shared his experience with Martin during lunch, Martin got excited and started to dive deeper into this topic. We both realized, we really found a pain that’s worth solving.
How long have you been working on this project?
In August 2021, we started exploring the idea and in November 2021 we committed to working part-time on Wonnda. In January 2022, we quit our jobs and decided to work full-time.
What is the vision of Wonnda?
Our vision is to become the operating system to build consumer products. On wonnda, all stakeholders find each other (brands, manufacturers, designers, packaging providers) and work efficiently together on our platform. With this operating system, we want to democratize the D2C landscape and enable anyone to launch their own consumer products.
What are the most important aspects when working on wonnda?
We want to solve a problem that our clients have, that no other company has solved before, while working with a team of people who can identify with our vision and enjoy working on it.
